Yo! Podcast #011 – Oliur
We have a chilled convo about humble beginnings, creating freedom through products, his upcoming course, minimalism, and why it’s important to re-invest in yourself.
CSS-Only LED Switch
Could flip this switch all day long. Jon Kantner has done a phenomenal job recreating an LED switch using CSS code only. Dat glow bro!
Ferrumpipe Website
Easily the most beautiful website you’ve seen for a fence and gate manufacturer. Feels like one of those briefs where an uncle, who doesn’t believe they need an online presence, tells his nephew “Go wild young Geoffrey”. And Geoffrey didn’t disappoint.
Interface Design Pro Tips by MDS
UI designer and educator Matt D. Smith published this 15 minute time-lapsed video designing a faux user interface in Figma. I cannot emphasize enough the seasoned UI nuggets he shares as he narrates the work.
Backlight – Website Privacy Inspector
Blacklight scans and reveals specific user-tracking tech on websites. It works really well and actually useful to double check your scripts/plugins aren’t being sneaky. Just tested it on One Page Love and only Google Analytics (lite code) in there, which I might remove soon.
Shapefest – 3D Library
Invision product designer Joseph Angelo Todaro has put together this impressive collection of 3D shape mock-ups (in PNG Format). There are so many free sets in here and the Sketch pack is only $15.
Mono Icons
Lovely minimal SVG set crafted by the Mono design team from Belgium featuring copy-to-clipboard or download.
CSS Background Pattern Generator
Neat interactive webapp allowing you to generate CSS background patterns customizable by color, opacity and spacing. Big love for the 1-click copy-to-clipboard Jim!
Yo! Podcast Illustration Concept
To try further differentiate the Yo! Podcast artwork from others, I’m toying with a new illustration concept using Steve Schoger’s image. This absolutely could not happen but it’s all part of the game and quite fun using Fiverr for the experiment. Let me know what you think!
:empty {} Selector
How’s this little CSS nugget Tweet by Aaron Iker to hide empty paragraphs (often created by users within content management systems).
Noun Project – Photos
If their icon collection is anything to go by, the Noun Project’s new photo integration is worth a bookmark for less-used stock images. You’re looking at $33/img for commercial license. Decent for “the one”.
BGJar – SVG Background Generator
Really impressive for an online free tool. There is quite a range of backgrounds and the customization features are solid too.
DDC Hardware Typeface
Solid all-caps typeface by legendary designer Aaron James Draplin. If you want a masterclass in copywriting Draplin always delivers IMO: “GET THE JOB DONE: With DDC Hardware! A no-bullshit workhorse typeface. Sturdy as hell. Does the heavy lifting for you.”
